OIL TEMPERATURE

Doc, how much difference is there between oil temperatures as registered by aftermarket gauges such as you (and I) have on our bikes, and what the dipstick temperature gauges display? I’m struggling with considerable heat issues on my 2011 Ultra and seem to find various conflicting values listed, on both websites and in other magazines. It’s difficult to cut through the misinformation to arrive at some objectively measured facts.

– Les

The oil temperature readings will differ in different locations depending upon where the oil is travelling to or from. It doesn’t matter that there are different readings in different locations, the main thing is to see what difference (if any) a gauge will show after some kind of cooling approach is taken.
